threap (THREEP) - v., to scold, chide; to maintain or assert obstinately. n., an obstinate determination or affirmation.


In the obstinate senses, there's the connotation of doing so even against evidence. Used now mostly in Scotland and North England, but it dates back to Old English as thrēapian, to blame. A good one to trot out on Burns Night.
