duffel (DUHF-fuhl) - n., a coarse woolen cloth with a nap on both sides.
Used for overcoats, especially ones used by the military, and various kinds of luggage -- including what's known as the duffel bag, even though today it's usually made of canvas. Named after a Belgian town near Antwerp, which entered English as the cloth some time in the mid-17th century.
