remiped (REM-uh-ped) - adj., having feet or legs adapted for use as oars. n., an animal (usually a crustacean or insect) with such.


Not, as you might expect, seals as those are pinnepeds, or wing-footed beasties. Instead, we're talking water beetles. Borrowed in the 1820s from French rémipède, from Latin rēm(us), oar + -ped, from pēs, foot.
