stillage (STIL-ij) - n., a platform, frame, or stand for keeping goods off the floor in a warehouse.


For, among other things, casks (as opposed to kegs) -- or anything else you don't want touching the ground, either for ease of handling or to prevent spoilage. Appears in print in the 1590s, apparently from Dutch stellagie or stellage, from stellen, to set up, place.
