macroscian
Sep. 20th, 2010 07:19 ammacroscian (ma-KROHS-kee-ahn) - n., one who casts a long shadow; one who inhabits the polar regions.
Also adjective for same. The first is the literal (i.e., etymological) definition, the second the practical (i.e., metaphoric). I can't tell if this was taken from Greek or coined from Greek roots, but I suspect the latter -- the constituents being macros, long + skia, shadow. Compare ascian, one without a shadow, who inhabits the torrid regions near the equator, which just doesn't have the same oomph. I mean, macroscian Vikings.
