liminal (LI-muh-nl or LEYEM-uh-nl) - adj., of or pertaining to a threshold or boundry; esp., of or pertaining to a sensory threshold; of, relating to, or being an intermediate state, phase, or condition; of or relating to the beginning of a state or process.
In that second sense, related to the psychological concept of liminality. Not a common word on its own outside of technical uses -- its more often seen form is subliminal, being below the threshold of perception. Coined in 1884 from Latin līmen, threshold. Chosen as today's word in hopes of finally getting it through my head that it is not "limnal".
