pruinose (PROO-uh-nohs) - adj., covered in a fine white powder, as if by frost.


This mainly comes up in botany. Can also refer to a waxy coating with a similar appearance. Coined in the 1820s from Latin pruīnōsus, frosty, from pruīna, hoarfrost.
