theurgy (THEE-ur-jee) - n., the art/technique of compelling/persuading a god to do/refrain from doing something.

Borrowed in the 1560s from Latin theūrgia, from Greek theourgeía, magic, from the(o)-, god + -ourgia, working, akin to érgon, to work.
