cruciferous (kroo-SIF-er-us) - adj., of, resembling, or pertaining to the plant family Cruciferae or Brassicaceae, the mustard/cabbage family; bearing a cross.

The latter being the original sense, the botanical ones coming from the four-petaled flowers. The cruciferous vegetables include cabbages, cauliflower, broccoli, mustard, horseradish, wasabi, radishes, turnips, canola (formerly known as rape), and most importantly rutabaga -- because the name is so fun to say, of course. Unless you call them swedes in your dialect, in which case, who cares. Though it's still cruciferous.

And that wraps up another C week. Tune in next week, same bat-time, same bat-channel, for more pretty good words. 'Till then -- giddy-up, pard'ner.
