sclerous (SKLEER-uhs, SKLER-uhs) - adj., hard, firm, toughened.


Bony, even -- though since the sclera is the white hard outer layer of the eyeball, it doesn't necessarily imply as hard as bone. Coined in the 19th century from Greek sklēros, hard.
