neep (NEEP) - n., (chiefly Scot.) turnip.

Or possibly rutabaga/swede, or sometimes both. But the terminology of who calls which root what is hopelessly confusing, across English dialects. The neep, however, is generally only used in one place. The Middle English form was nepe, from Old English nǣp, from Latin nāpus -- which is, in fact, the origin of the -nip part of turnip (the tur- apparently being turn-, as in a round thing turned on a lathe).
