forficate (FAWR-fi-kayt) - adj., deeply forked; shaped like scissors.


As in the tails of certain birds. Given that domain of application and that it was borrowed in the 1810s from Latin, I'm going to assume it was from scientific Latin as used by naturalists. Ultimately from Latin forfex, scissors or shears.
