Found in Indochina, Borneo, and parts of the Malaysia archipelago. The domesticated version, known as Bali cattle, is raised as a draft animal or for its meat. The name was borrowed in the 1810s from Indonesian Malay banténg, in turn from Javanese banṭéng.
