feckless (FEK-les) - adj., weak, ineffectual, incompetent; lacking purpose, worthless, lazy.
Lacking effect, literally -- for the feck is a medieval Scots contraction of effect. There are two general senses here: being unable to do anything and lacking the will to. First recorded in 1585, used strictly in Scots dialect until Thomas Carlyle popularized it in general English use.
