obtest (ob-TEST) - v., to beg earnestly, beseech; to protest, object; to call (on a supernatural power) as witness.
Not used very often anymore, and was always formal (if not outright stuffy?) register even when it was used. Borrowed in the 1540s from Latin obtestārī, to protest, from ob-, against + testis, a witness + -ārī, infinitive suffix. Which means at the root, it's almost an antonym of protest, and yet means that.
