rhinarium (reye-NAIR-ee-um) - n., the moist naked area surrounding the nostrils in most mammals.


The damp nose of the dog. Note that most primates lack this -- it's one of our distinguishing features. Wikipedia has more. I don't have an etymology aside from the obvious rhinos is Greek for nose.
