ingluvies (in-GLOO-vee-es) - n., (zoo.) a dilation of the esophagus before the stomach proper, esp. the crop of a bird.

Not to be confused with obsolete ingluvious, gluttonous. There's also an equivalent in some insects, and the word was also formerly used of the rumen of ruminants. (Why does that vowel change from -e- to -i- when switching forms, anyway?) This word tripped up the youngest entrant in this year's Scripp's Spelling Bee in the quarterfinal round. Aside from this is from Latin, I've got no derivation.
