ravelment (RAV-uhl-muhnt) - n., a tangle, confusion; an embroilment, disagreement.


A ravel is a loose thread, just for the record -- a ravelment is a tangle with loose threads sticking out, which can in metaphoric extensions mean a confused mess or a pulling apart. In use since around 1820, while ravel dates to around 1580, from Dutch rafel, loose thread.
