sifaka (suh-FAH-kuh) - n., any of several medium-sized lemurs (genus Propithecus) of Madagascar with silky fur and long tails.

Related to but distinguished from the indri. Their movement, even in tress, is mostly upright -- they leap using their hind legs, and on the ground walk bipedally with their forelegs stretched up for balance. Most species have black-and-white fur, and like all lemurs are pretty cute. Name borrowed in 1845 from the Malagasy name for them.
