greave (GREEV) - n., a piece of armor for the shin.


Or if we're talking plate armor, for the entire lower leg, front and back. Typically seen in the plural greaves because most people who wear armor have two legs. Borrowed around 1300 from French greve, of unknown origin though there is speculation that it may come from Arabic gaurab or jaurab, a stocking.

And that's if for armor week -- back to the general mix on Monday.
