Disinterested, aloof, and so on. Could be done as a fashionable pose or from simply not caring. Borrowed around 1760 from Italian (which would be shortly after a Grand Tour on the Continent including Italy became fashionable for well-off young men) poco curante, caring little, from curare, to care.
