A humorous one, but one that strikes a chord with more pessimistic types -- that car broke down right at the worst possible time because it KNEW it would be the worst possible time, and that ball it a stone that bounced it away from you on PURPOSE. This is, of course, a parody of existentialism, coined in 1948 by British humorist Paul Jennings, who also introduced the movement's slogan, "Les choses sont contre nous" -- "Things are against us".
