mishpocha (mish-PAW-cha) - n., the extended family by blood and marriage; clan.


Can also include close friends. Also spelled mishpachah, since there isn't a unified system of transliterating from Yiddish, for Yiddish this is from -- and before that Hebrew mišpāḥā. The canonical example usage is "She invited the whole mispocha."

A very important word! I also recommend machetunim, which is such a useful term for in-laws and the broader kin-by-marriage group.
