pokelogan (POHK-loh-guhn) - n. (Northeastern U.S.) marshy or stagnant water that has branched off from a stream or lake.
Very tightly regional usage. Origin is uncertain, but in tideland Maryland and Virginia, a woodland marshy area is called a pocosin, which is almost certainly from a local Algonquian language, and given the similarities, it is often speculated that pokelogan is from one of the northern Algonquian languages, but no source has been substantiated.
