oleophobic / lipophobic
Apr. 11th, 2014 07:14 amoleophobic (OH-lee-oh-foh-bik) - adj., lacking affinity for, or repelling, oils.
lipophobic (LI-poh-foh-bik) - adj., lacking affinity for, or repelling, lipids; not soluble in lipids.
This is something of a trick pairing, as oils are lipids -- as are other esters of fatty acids including fats, waxes, and triglycerides. Reading definitions, some sort of a distinction seems intended by the two terms, but no two sources seem to make the same distinction. In any case, lipos is Greek for fat and eleos is Greek for oil.
And that's the last doublet -- back to the regular mix on Monday.
