triquetra (trai-KWEE-truh, trai-KWE-tra) - n., a geometrical figure with three points, esp. one formed of three intersecting circular arcs.

May also come with a circle within or around it. Used as a religious symbol both in Christianity and various polytheistic religions. Adopted in the 1580s from New Latin, a noun use of feminine of Latin adjective triquetrus, three-cornered -- originally specifically used to mean triangle, then any three-cornered shape, then the above.
