orchiectomy (awr-kee-EK-tuh-mee) - n., the surgical removal of one or both testicles.
So a bilateral orchiectomy is castration. May be performed to treat certain advanced prostate cancers, as well as part of M2F sex reassignment surgery. Also sometimes spelled orchidectomy. Coined from Greek roots órchis, gonad + -ectomy, excision (from ex-, out of + -tomia, cutting). (Órchis is also the root of orchid, named so by the ancient Greeks for having roots that looked like testicles.)
