prosaist (proh-ZEY-ist) - n., someone who writes prose; someone who is prosaic.
That is, somewhat dull, commonplace, or uninteresting, for that last word. Prosaic comes, of course, from prose used as an antithesis of poetry -- having no poetry in the soul. I prefer the first, literal sense, especially when paired with poet: the sort of cafe frequented by poets and prosaists. Adopted in 1803 from French prosaïste, coined from Latin prōsa, originally meaning "straightforward (discourse)" and then specifically prose.
