lucida (LOO-si-dah) - n., the brightest star in a constellation.


Or asterism, astronomers aren't picky here. Plural is lucidae. This was shortened in the 1700s from the Latin phrase stella lūcida, bright star, from the adjective lūcidus, clear/bright/shining (also the origin of lucid).
