hornswoggle (HAWRN-swog-uhl) - v., to cheat, deceive, bamboozle.


Hookwink, hoax, trick, swindle, con, dupe, and so on. This is still in use in mainly northern and western U.S. First appeared around 1829, exactly how it was coined and what the parts mean is unknown, though there's been suggestions that it has to do with cattle horns waggling to get away from a lasso.
