Theme week -- I just happened to have five words beginning with P in a row, so here we are. P-words.
paniolo (pah-nee-OH-loh) - n., a Hawaiian cowboy.
What happens when ranchers in Hawaii learn skills from vaqueros from Mexico: they get the name as well, sort of -- from Hawaiian, supposedly from Spanish espaƱol, Spanish. Some old ranchers get pretty pissed if you use this form instead of paniola, which they claim is the original form, which suggests possibly there's another origin (or a word conflict in Hawaiian itself).

Thanks, WikiMedia!
