tamaraw - n., a small, dark-brown buffalo (Bubalus mindorensis) found only on Mindoro in the Philippines.


Also called the Mindoro dwarf buffalo, for somewhat obvious reasons. Unlike many bovines, it is not social. The name is from the Tagalog name for it -- alternate spellings are tamarau and tamarao.
