Range is southern Texas to northeastern Argentina. Also called cuiejo in parts of this range, and under that name its ground bones are used in love potions. Origin of the name is unclear, aside that it was probably taken from Mexican Spanish -- possibly adapted from its name from an unidentified language of tropical America.
