borborygmus
Apr. 5th, 2019 07:46 amborborygmus (bawr-buh-RIG-muhs) - n., a rumbling or gurgling sound caused by gas moving in the intestines.
Can also be used figuratively, such as for similar sounds coming from cranky pipes, and I learned it from The Space Child's Mother Goose (where a theological debate is called a "borborygmic confusion"). Not common regardless outside of medical contexts. We got the word from Latin in around 1725, which got it form Greek borborugmós, where it was coined as onomatopoeia.
