linsang (LIN-sang) - n., either of two arboreal catlike carnivorous animals (genus Prionodon) of southeast Asia; either of two superficially catlike carnivorous animals (genus Poiana) of Africa.


The first type are closely related to true cats, while the African ones are civets. All four have recractile claws, long low bodies, are solitary and nocturnal, and have similar markings. This one's the banded linsang of Java, Borneo, and Malasia:
