pignut (PIG-nut) - n., any of several unrelated trees and their fruit: brown hickories (Carya glabra and C. cordiformis) of North America; two Eurasian herbs (Bunium bulbocastanum aka black cumin and Conopodium majus aka kippernut) of Eurasia with edible tubers and spicy seeds; any of various rushpeas (genus Hoffmannseggia) of the Americas and Africa; and a pseudocereal (Hyptis suaveolens aka chan) of central and south America.

pignut flowers - but which pignut?
Thanks, WikiMedia!

The name for all these comes from pig + nut, as in they either are or look like nuts and pigs eat them.
