tamandua (tuh-MAN-doo-uh, tuh-man-doo-AH) - n., either of two small arboreal, nocturnal anteaters of central and south America with thick fur and a prehensile tail.


Both of the genus Tamandua. The name is from the Tupi word for anteaters in general, literally ant-catcher. This is the northern tamandua (T. mexicana):
