pluto - v., to demote, devalue, screw over.

Note the lower-case in this sense. From last year's demotion of the artist-former-known-as-a-planet. Which in turn was named after the Roman name for Hades, the god of the dead and the underworld, from Greek ploutos, wealth (from the belief that all wealth comes from the ground) -- but you knew that.

It amuses me greatly that this is now a verb. Where did you find this out?

Last week, the American Dialect Society voted it their word of the year (http://www.americandialect.org/index.php/amerdial/plutoed_voted_2006_word_of_the_year/) (here's the past winners (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_Dialect_Society)). I was reminded of it by today's alphaDictionary WOTD (http://www.alphadictionary.com/goodword/date/2007/01/11).
