pepita (peh-PEE-tah) - n., the edible seed of a pumpkin or similar squash, usually dried or toasted.


Yum! One of the best parts of carving a jack-o-lantern is getting a batch of pepitas fresh-roasted in the oven. The word is little used in English outside of North America, it having come from Mexican Spanish pepita de calabaza, little squash seed.
