cero (SEER-oh) - n., a large mackerel of the West Indies and North American Atlantic coast (Scomberomorus regalis).
Silvery sides and a dark-blue back, grows large for a mackerel, and like most mackerels it is heavily fished as eminently edible. The name is an alteration of of Spanish sierra, sawfish, so named from the two lines of small fins, resembling the teeth of a saw, running from its dorsal and anal fins to its tail.
