stannary (STAN-uh-ree) - n., a tin mine or other tin-works; a district with tin-mining. adj., of or pertaining to tin mining.

This is a highly regional word, with the original stannaries being in only Devonshire and Cornwall. The word's been in use (in manorial roles and statutes about tin-mining) since the mid-15th century, from Medieval Latin stannāria, tin mine, from Late Latin stann(um), tin + -āria, place of, which usually becomes -ary in English.
