pronoid (PROH-noyd) - adj., having the belief (esp. an delusional one) that there is a conspiracy that is out to help you. n., a person with such a belief.


The opposite of paranoid. This form is not as common as pronoia, the belief itself (and opposite of paranoia). The concept dates to at least 1955 and a D.J. Salinger novella ("I'm a kind of paranoiac in reverse. I suspect people of plotting to make me happy."), but the word to describe it wasn't coined until an 1982 academic article by Fred H. Goldner by replacing the para-, against in paranoid with pro-, for.
