prettygoodwordshiitake (shee-ee-TAH-kay) - n., an Asian mushroom (Lentinus edodes) widely cultivated on beech-and-relatives logs for its flavorful tan-to-brown cap.
Eminently edible, as a 'shroom guide would put it. Of course, despite lovin' 'em, my favorite association with them is Spy Kids . The English pronunciation is surprisingly close to the Japanese original, shītake, from shī, a type of chestnut (Castanopsis cuspidata) that it grows on + take, mushroom.
