sanguivorous
Jan. 25th, 2022 07:35 amIn honor of Burns Night ... or something like that:
sanguivorous (sang-GWIV-er-uhs) - adj., feeding on blood.
As in some insects and some bats. See also bloodsucking and hematophagous. Coined in the mid-1800s from Latin roots sanguis, blood (specifically, blood inside the body -- outside the body, it's cruor) and -vorous, devouring.
Okay, fine, so there really isn't any Robert Burns connection. But it is Burns Night tonight, so here's an Address to a Scotch Haggis on New-Year's Day for you.
