Physical tongue-tie, from which the social condition of being unable to speak is called being tongue-tied. The lingual frenulum is the narrow fold connecting the floor of the mouth to the middle underside of the tongue. This is a congenital condition that affects eating, talking, and pretty much anything we do with our tongues. Coined from Ancient Greek roots ancylo-, in English meaning both stiff/fused and bent/crooked but in Greek just crooked + glĂ´ssa, tongue.
