Can be caused by muscle strain, slipped or ruptured disc, and other possibilities. Mine, I get when I slouch in my desk chair. From Late Latin (no surprise, given it's medical) lumbāgō, from Late Latin lumbus, lower back, from Latin lumbus, loin, which is on the other side of the body but okay, sure, whatevs.
