ackee or akee (AK-ee) - n., a tropical evergreen tree (Blighia sapida) native to western Africa and cultivated in the Caribbean for its fruit; said fruit.
Only the fleshy aril of the fruit is edible, the remainder being poisonous, so you have to be careful -- which it in striking contrast to its close relatives, the lychee and longan. The name is from a west African language, probably from the Akan or Kru families, which span the Ghana/Liberia/Ivory Coast region.
