kankedort - n., (obs., rare) a state of suspense, in an awkward position.
Or so we think. We're not entirely sure, as there's one recorded usage -- in Chaucer's Troilus and Criseyde: "But now to yow, ye loveres that ben here, / Was Troilus nought in a kankedort ... ?" More at the About Page of kankedort.net, which hosts THE best Cantebury Tales pages out there.
