freesia (FREE-zhee-uh, FREE-zee-uh, FREE-zhuh) - n., any of several flowering plants (genus Freesia) native to southern Africa with fragrant usually red, pink, white, or yellow flowers.


Several species and cultivars are grown for their flowers. Named in 1882 after German botanist Friedrich Freese (1795-1876 or 1878).
