ballicatter or ballicater (bahl-i-KAHT-uh) - n., (Newfoundland) ice formed on a shoreline by waves and spray.


So up above the waterline on the side facing an onshore wind, which they get a lot of there. A dialect word from a tightly defined region, which I always find interesting. The Dictionary of Newfoundland English speculates that it's probably an alteration of barricade.
